Once-blooming and Button-eyed

September 8 – October 8, 2011

Opening: Thursday, September 8, 6-8pm

In Once-blooming and Button-eyed, I created a new series of sculpture

inspired by stray, discarded furniture that decomposes back into the earth. Similar to past bodies of work, I draw on fictional narratives that reveal glimpses into the past lives of these objects and those who lived with them.

Salpica!

A traveling exhibit, stopping at Centro Municipal de arte y Cultura in Guatemala City includes my video "Indigemate", inspired by the experience of traveling for 5 weeks, across two continents, with a group of artists from Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, and Equador.

The cultural exchange program was funded by the U.S. State Department, and organized by Ilan Stavans, Professor of Latin American and Latino Culture at Amherst College, and Julio Zugazagoitia, director of El Museo del Barrio.

In April 2010 it was shown in Bolivia at El Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore (MUSEF). From Bolivia it traveled to Colombia to the Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco. This month it is traveling to Guatemala where it will remain until September. In October it travels to Quito, Ecuador.
